Antique Havana-American Glass Cigar Jar with Ornate Metal Lid
A beautiful piece of American advertising history, reimagined for today’s home.
Dating to the early 1900s, this antique glass cigar jar features a wonderfully ornate metal lid embossed with the words “The Havana-American Co.’s Choice Cigars.” Elaborate floral scrollwork surrounds the original company monogram, creating a striking example of turn-of-the-century decorative design. The underside of the glass is embossed “Factory No. 6 — 50 — 1st District ILL,” identifying the original cigar factory registration and Illinois federal revenue district. This surviving marking adds another fascinating detail to the jar’s early American tobacco advertising history.
The Havana-American Company was established around 1899 during the golden age of American cigar manufacturing. Originally intended for cigar storage, jars like this one combined practical function with beautiful advertising design.
Fill it with beautifully wrapped guest soaps beside a bathroom sink, cotton rounds or other bath essentials, or use it as a distinctive decorative container on a kitchen counter or used in a coffee station. It’s equally lovely left empty, allowing the ornate lid and beautifully faceted glass to take center stage. It's also a wonderful addition to a bar cart, office or just about anywhere!
